Getting to Mizen Head is easy

In theory, once you're on the island of Ireland, finding your way to Mizen Head is easy: head southwest until you run out of road. Congratulations, you're on Mizen Head!

In practice, it's never quite that simple. Ireland's rural road network has a habit of throwing up the occasional navigation challenge, so we've gathered some information here to make your journey to Mizen Head easier. Below you'll find coordinates for your sat-nav system/smartphone navigation app, or, for those of you who prefer to navigate yourselves, straightforward directions from our two nearest large(ish) towns.

Navigation Coordinates

GPS Coordinates for Mizen Head Visitor Centre
Most navigation devices and popular smartphone navigation apps should have Mizen Head as a Point Of Interest (POI) in their database. If you can't find it on your device/app, try entering the following coordinates in the format preferred by your device:

Travelling from Skibbereen

  • Follow the signs for N71 until you reach Ballydehob
  • Go straight on (don't take the right turn for N71 at outskirts to Ballydehob). You will see the signs for Mizen Head Drive.
  • Follow the route R592 through Schull
  • Go through Goleen and continue until you see the sign for Mizen Head Drive (don't take the first turn to the right after the village - go straight on until you see the second sign)

Travelling from Bantry

Directions to Mizen Head from Bantry
  • Take the turning marked CROOKHAVEN R591
  • Travel through Durrus, taking the left fork towards Goleen
  • Continue to the end of the road and turn right at the T junction
  • Go through Goleen and continue until you see the sign for Mizen Head Drive (don't take the first turn to the right after the village - go straight on until you see the second sign)

Coach Tours and Car Hire

Public transport won't get you out as far as Mizen Head. The Bus Éireann Route 237 service from Cork to Goleen is as close as you can get. However, there are a couple of other options.

Hire a car

If you drive, and would like the freedom to explore West Cork's stunning coastline at leisure, nothing beats having your own car. You'll find several car hire companies at and around Cork Airport and at Cork City locations where you can rent vehicles by the day.
