Russell Barrett painted the mural on the gable end of Mizen Cafe. He painted it during the bitter winter of 2000-2001. It was so cold and windy that he could hardly keep the paint on the brush and he was nearly blown off the scaffolding several times. He painted it in the same metal paints as he used to paint the train the the railway cutting on a gable wall in Skibbereen. Unfortunately he died not long after he had finished painting this mural. RIP. In 2019 it was restored by Jules Thomas as the paints had started peeling.
