Mizen Shop sells souvenirs, books, toys, prints, cards, clothes, West Cork Crafts, chocolate.
The shop started in a portacabin in 1994. By 2001 the new building was completed. The building contained the Entrance Hall, Mizen Cafe, washrooms and Fastnet Hall, which was kitted out as a shop, ticket office, navigational aids simulator and 1/10 scale model of The Fastnet Rock Lighthouse.
In 2019 Fastnet Hall was completely remodelled. All the fittings of the first shop, ticket office and simulator were taken out. A new, bright, inviting retail space was created.
The model of the Fastnet is backed by a mural of the Mizen peninsua at sunset. The shop continued this theme round to a depiction of the night sky on the other gable. The night sky at the Mizen is spectacular as there are no extraneous lights to dilute your experience of the stars. Jules Thomas painted the mural, assisted by Stephen O'Sullivan
Andrew Jepson, the local craft carpenter, installed all the fittings and created the Ticket Desk. He made our unique standalone shelving too
